Kettle Moraine State Forest, central Wisconsin --> Chicago, Illinois

July 27, 2004

In the morning we ate and then I did the dishes. Pretty soon we were ready to leave Wisconsin behind us.

This is the actual sign for the state park we ended up staying in.

Again we drove past many farms. (Farms fill most of Wisconsin, it seems.) All the towns we passed were quite small..

The countryside was all lush and green. Out of all the states we went through, this was the most like Estonia. Of course the plants were somewhat different and the architecture as well, but landscapewise it was like Estonia. Even the climate was similar.

As usual we passed some interesting signs: Paradise Drive, Good Hope Road. Somehow signs like these always made us smile and so it seemed important enough to take photos of them.
In the city of Milwaukee we had trouble. We went to get gas in a gas station and when the gas tank was full the nozzle did not stop the flow so gas burst out and sprayed on everything. Somehow it went into the engine compartment and under one of the batteries [aku]. This meant that we couldn´t start the bus because it could have caused a spark and then it might have caused a fire. So we pushed the bus to the side and David started drying the spillage from the engine compartment. He went
through a huge pile of paper towels. And then he removed even the battery to dry under it. All together we spent something over an hour there waiting for the gas to evaporate.

Eventually we were able to leave and pretty soon after that we crossed over into the next state - Illinois. Since we were heading into a big city we were on a big freeway and it turned out to be a tollway. We had to pay 25 cents when we entered it and I think it was 75 cents when we left.

Pretty soon we were in Chicago. It is a huge city. It is even bigger if you have only a mediocre map and the street you are trying to get to is not on it. We drove around for quite a long time before we got to the hostel. Besides being a huge city, it is also expensive - we were able to spend only one night there.
