Cocklin Fish Farm County Park, Cass County, Iowa --> Pammel State Park, Madison County, Iowa

July 20, 2004

In the morning it was again hot and muggy. David set off to car work - by now David was adjusting the valves every other day, otherwise the bus did not have enough power - and I ate some breakfast. We took off as soon as we could because in the moving car it was a bit cooler than outside.

We drove to Winterset, Madison County, the place where the movie ¨The Bridges of Madison County¨ was filmed. I do not have pictures of the first covered bridge in here because the digital camera battery was charging (one day when we develop all the about 10 rolls of film I have shot this far there will be more images of the bridges here) but all the other bridges are represented on this page and the next one. The houses are just the buildings in Winterset, I really liked the buildings there - all the houses had porches and they were just so nice.

We had a picnic in the city park and David sat and rested as I went to take photos of one of the bridges that had been relocated into the park.

In Winterset we loaded the pictures up into the web.  There was a tiny internet cafe operated by some internet service provider and even though according to the sign on the door they were already closed they let us in and we could use their internet and they did not charge us anything!

The internet place was in front of and old gas station that had also been used in the movie.

One of the six remaining covered bridges of Madison County had been arsoned 3 years before. The county was building a new bridge to take place of the old one. It was scheduled to be finished by the covered bridges festival in October. In July when we were there the framework was almost completed.

It was getting late so we drove into a nearby state park. I wanted to stay in the area to see the remaining three bridges. It was still hot and muggy and from that point it was really nice to go to a park because we could take a nice cool shower and not be sticky for about ten minutes.
