Fountain of Youth RV Park,  Thermopolis, Wyoming --> KOA Campground, Bar Nunn, Wyoming

July 10, 2004

Here we discovered that our water tank was leaking, except we did not realize that it was actually letting water out. The surface under it was wet. David took the tank out, we dried it all up and put the tank in again. We crossed our fingers and hoped it was going to be fine.

After the car fixing part we went and swam in the hot water pool. The hot spring that provided the water was called Sacajawea Well.

After swimming we rinsed ourselves clean (hot springs water contains all kinds on unknown flying objects). We then drove off toward Legend Rock, a place where they had more petroglyphs, some of them reportedly up to 2000 years old.

The petroglyph of the rabbit is the only drawing of the rabbit in the United States area. The closest one is in Mexico.

The turtle is the symbol of longevity and is usually associated with the creation of the world.

Here we saw cactuses for the first time on this trip. Only a couple of them were still blooming, most were already withered. We did not look at the whole cliff, it is possible that there were more interesting petroglyphs but it was about 100 degrees in the shade and there was no shade anywhere near us. The roads were calling and so we left Thermopholis after a brief visit to a wax museum and teddy bear museum in one.

We drove off back through the tunnels towards Casper hoping to find a place to stay there and perhaps go to a bar. It happened that we ended up staying in KOA in one of the suburb towns of Casper called Bar Nunn. It looked like it was pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I did not have any hope of finding a bar but David did and it turned out that there was a bar right next to the campground! Of course we did not find it just like that, we walked quite a ways to get to it because we did not know to look so close. The bar was being widened and the side of it that faced the road looked like construction site. We got our beers and went off to bed.
