We checked out of our hotel and
decided that with no cash we could not buy a truck. We would just have
to chance it and hope that the bus would make it with a burnt valve all
the way back to Seattle.

We knew from our trip over that
there where a lot of mountains between us and our destination, and the
bus certainly would not make it back over some of the passes we had
taken. We decided our best bet would be the interstates since these
cross on the lowest passes possible. We headed out to I-70 and went as
fast as the poor bus would go (45 - 55 mph). Even with severe
mechanical troubles we covered more distance than we had on any
previous day.

Things were going almost too
well after yesterday, but then we got a flat tire. Fortunately we
noticed while we were in a rest area so we didn't have to change it on
the side of the freeway. There was some trouble getting the jack into
it's connection for this tire as some previous individual had decided
it would be a good idea to screw a ground wire exactly in a position
that would block the jack point. The ground wire was no longer needed
so presumably the same individual simply clipped the wire and left the
screw in place to rust and create headaches for anybody that might want
to actually use the jack point for it's intended purpose. Anyway a
little banging and wrenching got it out and we changed the tire.

We drove until dark and stayed
at an RV park. We made it over half way across Kansas, but it was a
terrible way to travel.
